I think they still need to work out some kinks. My sturgeon was dry and it was served on a somewhat uncreative bed of apples and bacon. But I can't complain too much. I ate the whole thing. The wife had a grilled chicken pasta dish. I didn't try it but she said it was good.

However, the bread is the Jakes recipe. It has this taste that instantly carried me back to Portland. Also, they had the three-berry cobbler on the menu and I'm a huge fan. So huge that I'll order it even after I've eaten a massive dinner. It's been the cause of many a stomach ache.

And the decor is what it is at every McC&S -- dark wood, green velvet curtains, and lots of glass. Very old school.

I'd go again and again.

So, how was it? Worth going? Did it remind you of Jakes?

Anyone who eats there..please also post your dining experience at our local food discussion site.

We are always wanting food/dining opinions. Feel free to post your website address as well. http://www.sacramentofoodgroup.org

I am looking forward to dining there myself. I go to Portland often and have had appetizers and drinks at the M&S there. Good times.

That lost-the-job story would make a great "slice of life" commercial, a la McDonald's or Applebee's, for the chain...fade out on the soused interviewee and the company logo.

I, like LIUS, will probably go at some point for the chance to hang out in the old Elks building, and admittedly I did enjoy the happy-hour menu at their place in Portland.

I'm the last person to drop bucks on a chain restaurants as well, but like you, I am excited about M&S. Part of it because of the building it's housed in

I scored a couple passes to one of the opening events this Saturday . I plan to take pictures and post them on my blog, so check it out Sunday or Monday to get an idea of the work they did on the inside.

Hey, I wouldn't mind babysitting for you sometimes.

It occurred to me the other day that mr. man has so much hair that he looks like the babies in the baby toupee spoof on Saturday Night Live.

And I was just saying that the Elks bldg is the perfect place for that restaurant. Maybe my alumni group will move its wet wednesdays there.

About 4 years ago, I traveled from San Francisco to Boston for a 1 hour meeting. The meeting was at 7a Boston time (4am for me) and it was about a 30 minute drive from my hotel. I walk up thinking "whoa, I must have left the light on. It shouldn't be this light at 2.45a" which is when I realized it was almost 10a and I'd slept through the meeting. I called the potential client in a panic, admited the truth and got to see them at noon (I didn't get the job).

That night, depressed and despondent, I had the best Manhattan of my life sitting in the bar of a McCormick and Schmicks.

That drink and that restaurant restored me and I'll always be grateful. Chain or not.
