800J Lofts

Tags:

From the outside the 800J Lofts building is a combination of outstanding design, industrial boredom, and a nostalgic reflection of the newer portion of the Convention Center several blocks further up. From the parking lot inside the Renaissance Tower (another building with which I have a love/hate relationship), one can look down into a courtyard in the project, complete with a lawn and crappy plastic chairs that look like they jumped out of an interior design magazine.

Because of the location, the high-density living situation, and the fact that the building does look pretty cool from some angles and in some lights, I could maybe have seen myself living there (had I the dough). But then I read Iozzi’s review of the inside. Honestly, I don’t know why I had higher expectations of the place. Of course they were going to make it seem industrial, unfinished, open. That’s why they’re called lofts. But Iozzi had an overall poor experience:

They had an opportunity to make a really nice property in a very good location. They failed. Had they succeeded I might have been able to overlook the issues with the leasing agent. The poor design of the living space wiring, inadequate kitchen, and lack of service shown by the leasing staff make this property a poor choice in its price range.

This is too bad.
