Maya, Red Mill beats out Kidd Valley…c’mon!

Do we have that many Thai places in Seattle? I guess we have a fair amount…a few are even good. I’ll trade you three Thai for one, good Mexican restaurant!

in my opinion, Taste of Thai on Broadway is the best – not to be confused with the other Thai place next door. (can seattle best that?) it’s the one with the natural wood all over the interior.

the only problem is that some of the dishes can be a little same-y or maybe same-ish? thought it’s forgivable because everything is excellent. Get the pineapple rice and go from there.

The Thai Basil on J street is an anomalous abomination. There are two more locations, and while I can’t speak for both, I can say that the service and the food at the Roseville location are far better than the one on J, and dare I say, my favorite Thai place in the area.

Alright John, I’ll grant you that the U district is full of all sorts of crap. But I still didn’t see *that* many Thai places.

I also miss Kidd Valley veggie burgers.

My husband and I have just discovered a Thai place in Rancho Cordova called Happy Thai. But I haven’t eaten at enough restaurants to compare its food or service to others.

Maya – Even if you count the greater U District? I dunno, there’s an awful lot of mom and pop Thai shops in SEA.

Margaret – I’ve never had bad service at Thai Basil, but I’ve never had really great service either. Guess I’ve been lucky. The last year or so I’ve been hearing a lot of complaints about their service.

I would like to put a word in in favor of Siam Restaurant on J Street (in the former KFC building, across from the Bonn Lair). Very yummy, good service, and reasonably priced.

The service at Thai Basil is so bad I really can’t stand the place.

As a former resident of Seattle, I have to disagree. Per capita, Sacramento has far more sushi restaurants than Seattle has Thai establishments.

Know what I miss? The Nicaraguan place on Freeport.

Oh, I agree John. The only reason this one has me interested is the teppanyaki. It’s an aweful nice thing to have when everyone in the group wants sushi except one person….and it’s pretty cool to watch as well.

I’ve never been to Gaesorn, I think i”ll have to give it a shot. Amarin is my place of choice. Also for something outside of downtown, I think Bangkok city off of West El Camino is good as well.

I’ve only been to four and this would be my order:

Thai Basil on J (excellent food, spotty service, can’t remember what I ate)
Gaesorn (excellent food, pretty good service at the old location, try the praram)
Amarin (good food and service, try the soup)
My Thai (okay food, excellent service, avoid the pad thai)

Living:

I look forward to another sushi place like I look forward to another hole in my head. I love sushi but really, sushi is to Sacramento as Thai is to Seattle. You can’t spit without hitting it. I wonder if there are more Thai places than Starbucks in Seattle?

But, I haven’t been to a teppanyaki place in ages and it would be killer to have one downtown.

Il Posto was good, but not bowl me over good (I had lunch there once). I won’t miss it.

Can’t wait to see what retail they get for 800J.
