More live theater?
Tags: sacramento, theaterIs there potential for more live theater in downtown Sacramento? B-Street’s potential expansion isn’t the only thing under consideration. Livinginurbansac links to an analysis that is going before the City Council tomorrow that explores four different live theater options for K-Street from a 200 seat studio theater to a 1,000 seat theater.
My own preference would be the combo option of a 400 seat theater and a smaller 200 seat studio, but then, I’m a huge fan of live theater. More accurately, I want the option of seeing live theater. I’m afraid I don’t patronize it nearly as much as I should. Sadly, like a lot of people I get my live theater in Ashland, and not every year at that.
Still, as Living points out, the report indicates that Sacramento’s live theater scene is “underdeveloped.” Isn’t it interesting that we can say that in this city where Starbucks can be voted “best local coffee shop? I would love for this town to become a draw for live theater afficionados.
But don’t think that live theater would be the only thing the spaces would be used for. They could be rented out for private functions, boring corporate seminars, birthday parties, motivational seminars, lectures, poetry readings, and maybe even school productions! The possibilities are endless – both spaces are small enough that they could offer a unique alternative to the singularly un-unique (how’s that for an oxymoron?) lecture environment provided by any of Downtown’s “luxury” hotels.
