Close the Curtains, Geeves, I Don’t Like Looking at the Sacramento River

Tags:

While the folks building the Aura have been busy plastering their hot-shit architect’s face on everything (what Amanda called the “Starichtect”), the folks building the Towers have been putting together a whole set of deals which will make them, in addition to a desirable living location for Sacramento’s upper crust and their kept women and men, a world class luxury center. Or should I say “centre”?

Saca has apparently pencilled in a deal with deluxe Bristish hotel chain InterContinental to open their second California location right here in River City. The hotel will take up 18 whole floors of the first tower, which begs the question, who will stay there?

Seriously. I doubt the acts playing at Marilyn’s can afford to stay there, and the Governor doesn’t need 18 floors of luxury hotel. Lobbyists? Conventioneers? Prom dates? I can only hope that InterContinental knows what they’re doing. But then, InterContinental also owns Holiday Inn. You don’t suppose they’re planning a bait and switch do you? Holiday Inn Express at the Towers at Capitol Mall?

According to the Business Journal article, there’s more. The owner on an ElDorado Hills spa wants to put the area’s biggest luxury spa in the Towers, and, given the seemingly insatiable appetite for opening new restaurants in Sacramento, I’m sure Saca will have no trouble attracting someone or somethree to open fine eateries there. Probably a gym too. If I were looking to locate a gym somewhere, I’d pick a location with a spa right next door. Or a Hooters.

I have just one (two) request(s): please don’t bring in another “high class” chain restaurant and don’t talk to Randy.

(Note, I’d post this over at My Urban Vista, but TypePad has had a major, uh, hiccup.)

Update: LivingInUrbanSac reports that “the spa that is mentioned in the article is a skan[k]y s[w]an[k]y place from El Dorado Hills, The Spa at La Borgata (apologies to the spa for the misreading!).”
