Amelie - you can use plain old Google maps for directions (click the "get directions" link under the search button and the search form will change to a directions form).

They aren't really any better than Mapquest's though.

oh crap. I just realized this is transit-only and not actual directions. Still, awesome for when I move back downtown and need up-to-date bus schedules. Hope it comes to sacto RT soon, because I hate their call in number wait time.

What a neat program! I'm so sick of mapquest and its crazy directions. Cannot wait tills this is a broader app.

M - you have to put in the entire address, like this:

pdx to 3203 se woodstock blvd, portland, or. It tells you to take the Red Line to Gateway, transfer to the 75, and walk down the hill. It doesn't say "down the hill," but you and Victor know what I mean.

Ironically, "pdx to reed college, portland, or" doesn't work.

I'd heard that the Google Transit site was buggy. Probably because they've been Slash-Dotted.

The MBTA is great. Last time I was in Boston (1998), I had no trouble navigating. I managed to get from the airport to my friend's house in Brookline without any trouble, and I did the touristy thing almost exclusively via transit (and walking, of course).

I couldn't get Google to recognize 3203 SE Woodstock, which seems odd. Or indeed any adress, which seems odder. But it matters not, since, as I've lamented before, mass transit here in the Triangle is god-awful. Google Transit for this part of the world would just add insult to injury.

Very cool. In case you're out this way, the MBTA (Boston) has a very nice site, with a functioning trip planner that actually works properly. You can tell it, for instance, that you want to *arrive at* (say) the airport at 6PM, starting from (say) my house. It will tell you when to leave, where to catch the bus (and an accurate when -- even for minor stops not in published timetables), and where and when to transfer. It will also tell you how much the ride will cost. And it even has little buttons for 'leave 5 minutes earlier' and 'later', in case you want to adjust your times a bit.
