Lofts wrapped around a parking lot. I like it! Frankly, I think moving B Street to a more central midtown location is an excellent idea. Furthermore, Sacramento has a vibrant theater community (who'd a thunk?) so, why not put another theater company in the old Woolworths?

Hey, you think this town would go for a Shakespearean theme? Maybe if at the <del datetime="2005-12-09T06:01:07+00:00">beginning</del> end of every play I did a random drawing for a free dinner at Cheesecake Factory.

If Sutter has a $Billion effect now, how much more will this new development have?

I have fond memories of playing Centipede at the Raleys that used to be where the main hospital building is now. In my minds eye I can still sort-of map out that old store. In fact, I occassionally dream about it. Yeah, TMI.

Still, I wouldn't want to stand in the way of this progress.

This is a HUGE HUGE project for Sacramento. I read that Sutter has a one <strong>BILLION </strong>dollar affect on the Sacramento economy. No way we can lose that.

It's pretty clear that the only reason SEIU’s is disputting this is the whole labor issue. From what i heard they just basically hired a lawyer to kind any loophole they could in the EIR. I'm sure they will still file a lawsuit challenging something in the EIR and try and tie it up in courts for as long as they can.

The housing units are supposed to be townhouses wrapped around the parking garage. If you want to get a rendering of the townhouses, check out www.loftowrks.biz , under "The Lofts", wait for the flash to finish and then click on "Suttter Midtown Townhouses" on the left handside. They are similar to ones in the East End Gateway

"I was hoping the B Street would end up in the old (Woolworth’s?) building across from Crest"

The K Street Central proposal was trying to get them into that spot, but it never panned out. I agree though, having a theatre district will all the above mentioned would have been great.
They are still trying to bring in another user for theatre space and have hired consultants to see if it feasable, we should hear more about that soon.

[...] John over at Uneasy Rhetoric has a good article about proposed expansion to Sutter Hospital, including some great links to Heckasac’s entertaining rant about lofts. I wish we’d entered the loft-o-mania phase two years ago when I had a buyer who wanted a loft, and all I could mumble at the time was “Lofts? — isn’t that a San Franscisco thing?”, or words to that effect.
I was hoping the B Street would end up in the old (Woolworth's?) building across from Crest. Then we could start to have something like a theater district (Community Center Theater, Sac Theater Company, Memorial, IMAX, the Crest and the "K" Street theater would all be nearby). I even sent Ray Tretheway an e-mail to that effect. Oh well - the expansion is still very likely a good thing.
