Bridgeport Ebenezer, 2005

Bridgeport makes dependably good beer, even if they did change the formula of my formerly favorite beer, Bridgeport Blue Heron. The formula change, which happened in the dark ages (the mid 1990s, I think), mellowed out what was definitely an acquired taste. (Thanks to Chris and Margaret for their hospitality and this fine, fine photo.)
Bridgeport Ebenezer Ale is a solid, dependable, winter beer. Dark brown in color, this beer shares the distinctive slightly fruity nose and initial taste of the other winter beers. Of the beers I’ve reviewed so far, it appears to have the most carbonation and a creamy head. It is more hoppy tasting than the Wassail but leaves the palate with only the slightest bitter aftertaste (it has 40 BU - bitterness units - as opposed to, for example, Celebration’s 64). Unlike the Jubelale, I would drink this with pizza. In fact, I did, and it was a wombo combo. Beer and pizza, not the type of pizza.
Ebenezer is also lower in alcohol than the others at 6.4 percent.
