Levinson’s Books now a Temple…

Tags:

Does anyone remember Levinson’s when it was a bookstore? I do. I remember browsing the tiny space as a kid, looking for books on dinosaurs, and then a little later, military history. I hadn’t set foot in it for years, but I was still a little sad when they closed down in 1994. The owners didn’t feel they could continue operating “in a neglected area.”

Of course, the book market was soon to change forever.

Finally, Levinson’s distinctive mock-Tudor space will be put to use again. According to the Sacramento Bee, (and verified by my lunchtime stroll) a new cafe, run by a former Naked Lounge staffer (funny, whenever I hear “former staffer” I always think “former Capitol staffer”), will open soon in the space. It will be called Temple Fine Coffee and Tea.

Watch this space for a review. I can’t resist trying someplace that makes use of one of downtown Sacramento’s most distinctive locations.

Also, I heard in passing that there is a new Italian restaurant on 9th between K and J that has begun serving. It took the place of an old sushi joint.
