Once upon a time, there was a Sacramento Bloggers Meetup group. It died because Meetup thought they could make money from a service that isn’t very different from MySpace or Yahoo Groups.

So, if I started a Sacto Bloggers MySpace or Yahoo group, would anyone join? And would they come to meetings at the Lair?

I’m listening to this podcast now with these guys who play chess and talk about stuff and play music. That’s not a bad format. The more activities going on at the same time the better, I say. So, we record podcasts while playing chess while drinking (maybe we could be drinking something different every time and taking podcast notes) while practicing guitar (the show will need background music, right?) while ranting about urban planning and databases! Holy shit, it sounds like fun.

Hey Chris, lets get together over multiple beers and/or lynchburg lemonades and talk about it. I recommend we not start talking about it until the first six pack is done or we've gone through half a bottle of whiskey. Carl can join us too, provided he brings his own sense of euphoria and can stand being around two drunk geeks hatching a plan. Obviously, I'm a lazy bum and don't want to do anything that would require a lot of work, but, on the other hand, something that requires a little work could be fun...and I want to do something that isn't just people droning into a microphone. Of course, those are some of the most popular podcasts out there. But one I really like, and wish he'd do more of, is Todd Maffin's "How to Do Stuff" I agree the future is up - but keeping housing affordable will flatten skyscrapers a little bit. Costs beaucoup bucks to scrape the sky. By the way, there's a 1bed 1bath shack on 35th about two or three plots away from Folsom for sale for $425,000. I'm thinking about offering a prize for who guesses the actual sale price and sale date, as will be reported in the East Sacramento Advertising Newspaper, or whatever it's called.

Carl’s absolutely right. I’ve got the equipment. I’ve got the cast. I’m totally up for podding it. In fact, I would love to do a pod cast where you talk about urban planning (I’ve made my feelings clear on this…the future is up!), Carl rants about Access (which I actually find quite useful on a semi-frequent basis), and I can talk about chess (which I suck at, but have become obsessed with).

Oh, there’s plenty wrong with Access, although once I started learning SQL I started to get a better grasp of how Access queries work, which makes it much more useful. I think a lot of nonprofits jump into expensive fundraising systems they don’t need because they’re afraid of rolling their own – and they shouldn’t be.

Worse, there are still orgs out there keeping their fundraising lists in Excel, and that’s just crazy.

Flickr looks like fun – the only downside I can see is that you can’t order prints, not even with the paid version, as far as I can tell. I don’t see myself ordering many prints, but I like having the option.

Maya, website redesigns are excellent procrastination tools.
