D-i-v-o-r-c-e. One County’s “Irreconcilable” Differences

Tags:

California High School Conservative writes a very astute rebuttal to those who are trying to argue that Santa Barbara County should be split into two counties because the halves are just so different.

The High School Conservative is obviously politically opposite from me, but his observation gets at the core of something I believe. At times partisan bickering may seem to bog us down, but in some respects, our differences make us stronger - the nature of debate makes us stronger (and makes politics so, so much fun). I’ll quote just a piece of his post, which is short, but worth reading:

Political boundaries encompass people of differing cultures and political leanings all of the time. Just consider the whole state of California. For the most part, the coast is Democratic and the inland areas are republican. Does that mean that we should just divide the state into West and East California? No, that would just make us both weaker.
