Uneasy Rhetoric

I did a stupid thing this weekend. I decided to update my WordPress installation from 1.2.2 to 1.5. That is, from a stable release to a beta release. I should have realized three things:

1. Just because I can read through a long PHP document and get a sense of what it means does not mean my coding skills are up to the task of dealing with betaware.

2. All of those who have been saying that 1.5 seems pretty stable have more coding knowledge than I do and probably more time on their hands.

3. The time I thought I could spend dealing with code and with recoding my website to take advantage of WP1.5, I really should be using writing, or reading, or working out, or in general not being online.

Unfortunately, in trying to get 1.5 working well for me, I royally screwed everything up. So, I’m back to the old 1.2.2 because it works for me.

Welcome back to the tried and true. Sometimes “new and improved” is just a synonym for “sucks.”
