I should say something about Susan Sontag. She was important in the literary community and thus in the world that formed me; however, her work was not something I personally took away from that world. Perhaps that was a wrong choice, but in the world of literary criticism, we must have gaps in our knowledge, and acknowledge that they exist. Otherwise, we would go crazy in a fruitless attempt to pretend that everything matters to everyone.
