Uneasy Rhetoric

Spend any time talking to me and you’ll discover that I still maintain a sense of wonder and awe when it comes to NASA and space exploration. While I can think of a hundred ways the government could spend its money better, I can also imagine a world where our human curiosity about the cosmos allows us to set aside our differences and work for incredible scientific discovery (cue sappy Star Trek music). I take every blow to NASA’s credibility personally, even though I have nothing to do with them.

That’s why I have such a strong opinion of the rhetoric surrounding SpaceShip One. I don’t want to belittle the accomplishment of SSO, but I do think their belittling of NASA and the decades of government funding that made their mission possible is misleading.

Thus, it is with great joy that I present Space Ship One, on Fark.com.
