Scarcity and abundance.
Tags: techPeter de Jager writes that problems like obesity, traffic jams, and even spam come about because Humans are designed to operate in an environment of scarcity, yet we have created one of abundance.
He suggests that, before we adopt new changes in technology, we consider the long term implications of adoption. While I would tend to agree (despite the fact that Jurassic Park made the same argument), I wonder if such thinking is also not instinctual. Humans tend to go for the instant payoff.
