Foreign Spam
Tags: techOne would think that, because I read several French websites and do receive e-mail from them from time-to-time, the first foreign language spam I would receive would be in French. Nope. Your second guess might be Spanish or Japanese, but that would also be wrong (I may have received an e-mail with Japanese in it, but it also had English — it wasn’t entirely in a foreign language).
I just received an e-mail entirely in Portuguese. It was about, I think, a cult following of a dead Catholic “thinker” who believed the end was neigh. I tried to run it through the Babelfish translation service but it came out exceptionally poorly (even by online translator standards), possibly because it was Brazilian Portuguese.
Even more interesting, despite being entirely in a foreign language, my spam catcher did identify it as spam. Go figure.
I would love to know how I got on that list. Or why.
Update: My horoscope for today (Jeraldine Saunders, from The Oregonian,) said: A foreign issue or aid comes to your attention that has to do with the truth. I wonder if it has anything to do with my spam?
